Startskottet för Gävles nya avloppsreningsverk inleds

In November, Gästrike Vatten will commence demolition works in the area where Gävle’s new sewage treatment plant is to be constructed.

After many years of planning, this is the first time that the work becomes visible from the outside.

Five buildings will be demolished, and the work is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025. The demolition will commence with a thorough inspection of the enclosure to ensure safety. Afterwards, all recyclable materials shall be properly handled. Valuable materials such as doors, gates, locks, and other components will be reused by us, our general contractor Byggdialog, and other interested parties. Stålstommar och annat värdefullt material kommer att återvinnas.

By embracing a comprehensive approach to reuse and recycling, we reduce both waste and environmental impact.

Meanwhile, as the demolition work is ongoing, plans for the new wastewater treatment plant continue to progress. The Municipal Council is expected to make a decision on the financing by the end of November, following which preparatory work can commence. The Reningsverket is a crucial investment for Gävle’s future water management and is expected to be operational by the year 2030. The new project will contribute to a modern and sustainable water purification system that meets future requirements for both environmental considerations and capacity.
